The hike to Yapashi pueblo is a beautiful, but strenuous day hike. It is about a 12 mile hike to Yapashi and back, or you can make it a 16 mile loop by continuing on the Stone Lions trail and connecting back to the Visitor Center on the Frijoles Rim trail. Any way you hike to Yapashi you will have cross Alamo canyon twice. There are no water sources on the out and back, but there is usually water in upper Alamo canyon on the loop route. Remember to filter all water in Bandelier. There is also an option for a shorter 7 mile out and back hike out to the edge of Alamo canyon on the Mid Alamo trail, enjoying a snack and the view, and hiking back to the Visitor Center. |
