The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Colorado has awarded Sperry Chalet in Glacier National Park a Design Award of Excellence. The Denver Service Center (DSC) contracted and managed this project after a fire destroyed historic Sperry Chalet in 2017. Following the loss, there was an immediate effort to stabilize the remaining walls and begin preparations for rebuilding the dormitory. For two years, contractors worked under difficult field conditions to not only retain the structure’s historic integrity but also provide the best possible visitor experience for the next 100 years.

The first phase of the project, completed in 2018, included building stabilization, interior seismic walls, and temporary roofing. And, the second and final phase of the project included masonry repairs, the permanent roof, and all other interior finishes to complete the building and ready it for visitor use. The chalet reopened to visitor use in July 2020.

Congratulations to the project team on this very successful, historic project!
