Portraits of Acadia: Dianna McKeage
My longest running stints with the park service have been with Trail Crew and Interpretation, and I have to say that being a volunteer coordinator is like a marriage between the two. I still get to go out in the field sometimes and lead trail projects with volunteers. But there's a lot of behind the scenes. We're coordinating, creating schedules, making sure everybody has uniforms and paperwork and proper training. We have over 3,500 volunteers who volunteer annually and donate between 50,000 and 70,000 hours a year.
It keeps me on my toes. Working with people who care so much and are always so giving of themselves is really inspiring. It's a joy and a pleasure to get to work with them.
– Dianna McKeage, volunteer coordinator
