The Inspiring Mountain

Mount Rainier National Park

Mount Rainier is a beautiful place home to many plants and animals. People come from all over the world to visit and enjoy the scenery! The wildflowers, the snowy mountain top, and the historic building have all inspired people to create art. There are poems written about the mountain and water color paintings!

Look through the pictures below of different places on Mount Rainier. Pick one that really inspires you. Create a poem or draw or paint a picture based on what you see.

Carbon River Rain Forest

Carbon River Rain Forest
This temperate rain forest is found in the Carbon River area of the park. There are trees over 200 years old here. The floor is covered in plants like ferns, devil’s club, and salal. Moss and lichen cover the trees. This part of the park gets a lot of rain and is the perfect habitat for the Spotted Owl.

Paradise Wildflower Meadows

Paradise Wildflower Meadows
Wildflower blooms by millions in the part of the park called Paradise. The flowers are all sorts of colors; red, blue, white, yellow, purple, and many more! People hike on the trails to get a closer look at the different type of flowers.

Snowy Alpine

Snowy Alpine
The top of the mountain can be a rough place. Covered in snow and ice, making it hard to travel. Rocky ridges and no shade from trees. The weather can change in any moment and storms can roll through. People climb to the top of the mountain every year, hoping to get a view of the surrounding landscape.

Munching Marmot

Munching Marmot
Marmots are giant rodents, similar to beavers and groundhogs. They are very social and like to hang out with other marmots. They spend most of the summer eating plants to get ready for hibernation. Marmots can be seen in subalpine soaking up the sun on a rock.

Magnificent Mountain

Magnificent Mountain
Mount Rainier is a giant mountain. It is 14,410 ft tall. It can be seen from far away towering over the landscape. Its snow covered peak and jagged ridges give it a dramatic look.
