With funding from FERA the National Park Service launched HABS on December 12, 1933. Together with the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER, established 1969) and the Historic American Landscape Survey (HALS, established 2000) they continue to document significant architectural and engineering features throughout the United States, with the permanent image and document collection housed at the Library of Congress.
