Rough Canyon CampgroundBasic Information![]() Rough Canyon Campground is generally open year-round and is in close proximity to a boat ramp. There may be a camp host on duty in the winter, and a Ranger Station is staffed intermittently. This campground offers 4 primitive sites, each with a covered picnic table and a BBQ grill. The sites are suitable for tents or RVs. No drinking water or hookups are available. Comfort station and running water available nearby at the Ranger Station.

Weather The climate at Amistad is semi-arid in moisture and subtropical in temperature. Summers are long, hot, and frequently humid; winters are mild varying between sunny, warm, cloudy, and cool weather. Nearly 80% of annual rain occurs April - October with thunderstorms and heavy downpours often resulting in flash flooding. The limited precipitation in November - March is drizzle. Temperatures vary from 40°F - 98°F and rarely below 31°F. Turn left onto Highway 377 North and travel 12.1 miles (follow signs to Sonora). Turn left onto Recreation Road 2 (also called "R 2") and travel 7.4 miles. Campground is located at the end of Recreation Road 2 just before the boat ramp area. Regulations Site capacity is not to exceed eight persons and one recreational vehicle camping unit (three vehicles total). Vehicles must be parked in designated parking areas only and may not be driven off-road. Visitors can stay in a campground up to 14 consecutive nights with a limit of 60 nights in the park in a calendar year. All sites are first-come, first-served only.
