Yosemite Fire Update - June 15, 2020

Over the weekend Yosemite Fire and Aviation responded to two new lightning caused wildfires as a result of thunderstorms on June 12, 2020.

Tamarack Fire

  • Location: Near Tamarack Flat (N 37° 47.237' x W 119° 43.688') 
  • Elevation: Approximately 6,500 feet
  • Size: .10 acres
  • Cause: Lightning

The Tamarack Fire is one tenth of an acre located in the wilderness near Tamarack Flat and is being managed for resource objectives. The fire is burning in an old fire scar and is creeping and smoldering in the forest understory through green brush. Vegetation at these elevations are very wet and there is currently low growth potential. The fire is being monitored and smoke may be visible at times in this area.

Dance Floor Fire

  • Location: Near Devil's Dance Floor (N 37° 44.685' x W 119° 44.843')
  • Elevation: 6,500 feet
  • Size: .10 acres
  • Cause: Lightning

The Dance Floor Fire, located near Devil’s Dance Floor is one tenth of an acre. Firefighters are using full suppression tactics; it is contained, and it will be patrolled until declared out.
