Fire Update September 14th, 2017

September 14, 2017 Posted by: Yosemite Fire Update
There are multiple fires burning in Yosemite National Park's wilderness. There has not been any change in size on the fires. Glacier Point Road is still closed due to fire operations along the road. Showers and thunderstorms are possible through this evening with increased relative humidities and cooler temperatures through the weekend. Gusty and erratic winds are possible with any thunderstorm that develops.

Overall, monitors are in the good/moderate range in the Yosemite area. Yosemite West and Wawona had only brief local smoke from the Empire/South Fork Fires overnight. Morning smoke from the Empire Smoke has also been visible in the western end Yosemite Valley (e.g., from Tunnel View), but disperses by afternoon and has little effect on the eastern end of Yosemite Valley (i.e., Yosemite Village). Dispersion will likely improve today and tomorrow, with strengthening SW winds in the afternoon, and decreasing chance of thunderstorms.
