CCC Reunion

In 1989, Zion National Park hosted a reunion for CCC members and associated military and National Park Service personnel. Almost 100 men returned to the park and saw old friends, some of whom they hadn’t seen in over 50 years. They shared their memories with one another, and their stories were preserved through the park’s oral history program. Many of the CCC alumni reflected on the tremendous impact the program had on their lives, including learning about camaraderie, responsibility, hard work, independence, discipline, confidence, and education. The stories they told at the reunion helped inform our understanding of how the CCC operated in the park and the impacts the program had both on the participants and local community. The hard work and dedication of the CCC men who worked at Zion National Park has been commemorated with a statue and interpretative wayside that is now located in front of the current Visitor Center.

This statue, dedicated in 2016, commemorates the work of the CCC enrollees who were critical in creating much of the infrastructure for Zion National Park. It currently stands in front of the park’s Visitor Center. NPS Photo.
