Smorgle Saves the Day (PDF)

An Alien Adventure in Zion National Park
by Margaret Dilloway

Staying in Zion was one of the most inspiring experiences of my life. I worked on my next book for Balzer + Bray, WHERE THE SKY LIVES (2022) which I set in Zion National Park. I spent a lot of time both hiking the various trails and talking to different people who worked within the park, and had so many story ideas it was difficult to narrow one down for the residency. With the [COVID-19] pandemic happening I wanted to keep the story fun and light while still being a little educational, perhaps to be used with the 4th graders who visit the park as part of the national Every Kid Outdoors program.
The geology of the park always intrigued me as I tried to imagine what it looked like throughout history, which gave me the idea for time traveling. And who better to time travel than aliens? I hope you enjoy SMORGLE SAVES THE DAY.
