We fill positions in many fields, including interpretation, maintenance, administration, resource management, education, law enforcement, and visitor services. Some jobs are office-oriented, others focus on working with the public, and some involve working outdoors. Each job performs a vital function - that of providing visitors an opportunity to enjoy a unique experience, while working hard to preserve natural and cultural resources for future generations.

Wrangell-St. Elias hires employees a variety of ways. Most jobs are announced nationwide through the federal government job website: USAJobs.gov. In addition, some positions are hired separately through a "local hire" job authority and are available to qualified local residents only (typically residents of the Copper River Valley area).

JOBS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE ALASKA LOCAL HIRE PROGRAM--PUBLIC LAW 96-487: The National Park Service in Alaska announces many of its job openings through a “local hire” appointing authority that was established under the Alaska

National Interest Lands Conservation Act of 1980 (ANILCA) (Public Law 96-487). Under the local hire program, only persons who have either lived or worked in or near particular public lands may apply for consideration. These individuals, by virtue of having lived or worked in the area, have special knowledge and expertise concerning the natural and/or cultural resources of the public land and its management. Local hire eligibility will be determined by the hiring official via the job interview and the resume submitted by the applicant.

Other Hiring Authority sometimes available: 213.3102(i)(1) Remote & Isolated Duty Station. (RI) which does not require any local residency requirement.
