Learn more about our volunteer program, and sign up to be a volunteer today!To learn more about volunteering with the National Park Service and to get started, visit Volunteer.gov or Find a Park. ![]() NPS Photo Teacher Ranger Teacher ProgramThe National Park Service Teacher Ranger Teacher (TRT) program is an extended professional development opportunity for educators from K-12 schools to learn about the resources and educational materials available through the National Park Service.Teachers participating in the Teacher Ranger Teacher program will have the opportunity to engage in parks and park resources, participate in a webinar about lesson planning, develop at least one lesson to be used in their classroom or school, assist the park with an education project, and increase their understanding of place-based learning. This program will offer teachers a unique opportunity to infuse their teaching skills with NPS-based Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education resources and the use of primary sources and place based learning. Administration of the program, professional development hours and graduate credit hours will be made available to participants through the University of Colorado, Denver (UC Denver) through a cooperative agreement. White Sands National Park typically hires one TRT each year. Visit the White Sands National Park TRT webpage for more information our program, past TRT projects, and current opportunities. Typically applications for the White Sands TRT position are open in January with selections for the position in February of each year when the monument has the fuds to support the program. ![]() NPS Photo The Student Conservation Association (SCA)SCA’s mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land. The SCA offers positions in many park and monuments around the country. While not a salaried position, you will receive compensation in the form of a stipend, moving expenses or mileage reimbursement and a monetary award which can be used for paying off old school loans or paying for additional classes. White Sands National Park typical hires one to two SCA interns each year who support youth outreach, visitor services, resource management, and more.
