Contact: Kevin Bowles Mohr, (580) 497-2742 ext. 3003 Please join Washita Battlefield National Historic Site in welcoming David Pettyjohn, Executive Director of Preservation Oklahoma, Inc. (POK), on Sunday, July 26, as part of the Summer lecture series at 2:00 p.m. in the park's visitor center. Mr. Pettyjohn will answer the key question, "Why is preservation important," in addition to dispelling some of the myths surrounding it. When one stops to consider all the diverse cultures and historic resources that have mixed together down through the years to create the uniqueness that characterizes the state of Oklahoma, it makes sense that promoting historic preservation statewide is an important responsibility.
In 2012, Mr. Pettyjohn became the Executive Director of POK sponsoring historic preservation through activities throughout Oklahoma. Previously he was the Assistant Director for the Oklahoma Humanities council. He holds an M.A. in History and a B.A. in History/Secondary Education, both from the University of Tulsa. He currently serves on the Board of the Oklahoma Archaeology Survey.
Everyone is cordially invited to come listen to David Pettyjohn and learn about Preservation Oklahoma, Inc, Afterwards, refreshments will be available.
