The Minnesota State Memorial is located on Union Avenue at milepost 0.6 of the park tour road. This memorial honors the troops from Minnesota that participated in the Vicksburg campaign and was dedicated on May 24, 1907, and cost $24,000. It features a 90-foot tall white granite vertical column. On the foundation of the column is the word "Minnesota" sculpted into its north and south sides. At the base of the column is a raised bronze statue of a woman representing the "Statue of Peace." She is seen holding a sword and shield from both armies who have placed their weapons in her keeping. "Peace" was sculpted by William Couper. |
