Stevenson's Division Third Confederate Battery Captain John R. Rowan Engaged: Champion's Hill, May 16 Defene, May 18-July 4, Casualties not fully reported Captain Ferdo Claiborne killed, June 24. On duty at guns in front of this monument a detachment with one gun, under Lieut. William L. Ritter served on rolling fork and deer creek from April second to June First when it was ordered to Yazoo City and attached to Walkers Division. The Maryland State Memorial is located outside of Vicksburg National Military Park on former park property in the City of Vicksburg. It is situated on south Confederate Avenue approximately 0.2 miles south of the Mulvihill Street intersection. The memorial consists of a bronze tablet mounted on a granite pedestal, commemorating the 3d Maryland Battery under the command of Ferdinand O. Claiborne. |
