99th Illinois Infantry Monument is located on Union Avenue 50 yards south of the railroad bridge. Also a position marker designating the assault of 22 May 1863, located on the slope between Confederate Avenue and the Anshe Chesed Jewish Cemetery; a position marker designating the assault of 22 May 1863 where Sgt. Higgins reached the parapet, located between Clay Street and the Anshe Chesed Jewish Cemetery; a position marker designating the location of the regiment on the night of 22 May 1863, located in the mowed gallery 900' east of Confederate Avenue opposite the Anshe Chesed Jewish Cemetery; a position marker designating a sharpshooter's line, located 40' off the south side of Clay Street west of the Clay Street overpass; and a position marker designating the camp site located at that same location. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. William P. Benton & Col. Henry D. Washburn's (assumed command 31 May 1863) 1st Brigade of Brig. Gen. Eugene A. Carr's 14th Division, Maj. Gen'ls John A. McClernand (relieved of command 19 June 1863) & Edward O.C. Ord's XIII Army Corps and was commanded by Col. George W.K. Bailey, Capt. Asa C. Matthews & Lt. Col. Lemel Parke.
