Monument located on the north side of Confederate Avenue approximately 0.4 miles east of the Tennessee Memorial. Also, three trench markers located on the north side of Confederate Avenue approximately 0.3 miles east of the Tennessee Memorial and running east. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. William E. Baldwin's Brigade, of Maj. Gen. Martin Luther Smith's Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Army of Vicksburg, and commanded by Col. Pierce S. Layton, Lt. Col. Thomas W. Adair, and Capt. Thomas P. Nelson.

At the Battle of Big Black River Bridge, the regiment was attached to Brig. Gen. John S. Bowen's Bridgehead Defense Force, and although suffering few killed and wounded, many men were captured, including Maj. Joseph J. Gee. [Refer to Edwin Bearss' The Vicksburg Campaign, Volume I, page 225; Volume II, pages 407 and 689; and Volume III, pages 779, 869, and 966.]
