This unit was attached to Maj. Gen. Francis P. Blair's 2d Division, of Maj. Gen'ls William T. Sherman's and Frederick Steele's XV Army Corps, and commanded by Capt. Daniel W. Ballou and Lt. Benjamin Joel.
