Three companies of Louisiana Cavalry were attached to Lt. Col. George Gnatt's 9th Tennessee Battalion, Maj. Gen. Franklin Gardner's 3d Military District at Port Hudson, LA, and commanded by Capt. B. F. Bryan, Capt. John B. Cage, and Capt. H. L. Daigre. These companies were not bottled up in Port Hudson and continued to operate militarily outside the fortifications.
