This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Abraham Buford's Brigade of Maj. Gen. Franklin Gardner's 3d Military District at Port Hudson, LA , Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and commanded by Lt. Col. John Snodgrass. When Buford's Brigade was reorganized and transferred north, the regiment remained behind at Port Hudson.
