This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Ben H. Helm's Kentucky Brigade, of Maj. Gen. John C. Breckinridge's Division, Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Army of Relief, Department of the West, and commanded by Lt. Col. James W. Hewitt.
