McClernand's XIII Army Corps, attacked the north face of the 2d Texas Lunette on Baldwin's Ferry Road on 22 May 1863, placing its colors close to that work and held its position until relieved by Col. John B. Sanborn's 1st Brigade of Brig. Gen. Isaac F. Quinby's 7th Division, Maj. Gen. James B. McPherson's XVII Army Corps. Casualties: Port Gibson, 1 May 1863 - 1 enlisted man WIA. Champion Hill, 16 May 1863 - 3 enlisted men WIA. Big Black River, 17 May 1863 - 1 enlisted man WIA.
