This unit was attached to Col. William H. Parson's Cavalry Brigade, of Maj. Gen. John G. Walker's Division, Maj. Gen. Richard Taylor's District of Western Louisiana, in Lt. Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith's Trans-Mississippi Department, and commanded by Col. George W. Carter. This regiment served in northeast Louisiana, and together with the 12th Texas Cavalry, skirmished against the 1st Arkansas Infantry (African Descent) near Goodrich's Landing.
