Multiple monument located at Louisiana Circle on South Washington Street. This unit was attached to Col. Edward Higgins' River Defense Batteries, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Army of Vicksburg, and commanded by Col. C. A. Fuller and Lt. Col. Daniel Beltzhoover. [Refer to page 24, Volume 1 of the WPA Monumentation Books and to Edwin Bearss' The Vicksburg Campaign, Volume I, page 226 and Volume III, pages 873 and 968.] Company H This unit was attached to the "Widow Blakely Battery" about a mile southeast of the Marine Battery, 130 ft above the river, and commanded by Capt. Richard S. Bond. The battery mounted three 32-pdr rifled guns and one 7.44-inch Blakely Rifle (known as the "Widow Blakely").
The "Widow" was manned by a detachment of Company H, under the command of Lt. A. L. Slack. An iron tablet is located at Louisiana Circle on South Washington Street. [Refer to Edwin Bearss' The Vicksburg Campaign, Volume II, page 63.]
