From 15 April to 8 May 1863, this unit was attached to Brig. Gen. John Adams' 4th Military District, of Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and commanded by Col. Michael Farrell. During the siege of Vicksburg, the regiment was attached to Col. Arthur E. Reynold's and Brig. Gen. John Adams' (assumed command 8 June 1863) 1st Brigade, of Maj. Gen. William Wing Loring's Division, Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Army of Relief, Department of the West.
