Black Butte Ski Trail

Glimpses of mountain views can be seen through the trees along the Divide Ski Trail.

The Black Butte Ski Trail is a 14-mile (22.6-km) round-trip ski that follows Black Butte Creek and offers mountain views. The trailhead is located 28.8 miles (46.3 km) north of West Yellowstone along US Highway 191. The trail follows Black Butte Creek with many short, steep sections, gaining 769 ft (234 m) in elevation between the trailhead and Daly Creek Cutoff (2 miles / 3.2 km) west to Daly Creek Trail). From the junction with the Daly Creek Cutoff, the trail climbs for 4 miles (6.4 km) to Bighorn Peak. The Daly Creek Cutoff (2.2 miles / 3.5 km) can be used to connect to the Daly Creek Trail.

Notes: Bison and elk frequent this trail. Federal regulations require you to stay at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears and wolves, and at least 25 yards (23 m) away from bison and all other wild animals. CAUTION: Due to steep terrain, recommended for advanced skiers only. The last 2 miles (3.2 km) are not recommended. The trail becomes extremely steep and hard to follow, and is dangerously exposed.

Qualified service animals are welcome throughout the park and in all park facilities. However, they must be leashed and under your control at all times.
