What’s happening? The location of our security screening facility and ferry service moved on February 8, 2024, to a new temporary location next to The View restaurant in The Battery, NYC. This location is still on The Battery waterfront and is about 300 yards south (in the direction of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal) from the previous screening facility.
Why are we doing this project? The impact of Hurricane Sandy on lower Manhattan was devastating. In response, the City of New York has begun construction on The Battery Coastal Resilience project. Part of the project is the reconstruction and elevation of the waterfront promenade above sea level rise projections. Our existing security screening facility needs to be temporarily moved to complete this work. Once the reconstruction of that area is complete, we will move the facility back to its original location. We anticipate the project to take about 2 years to complete.
How will this project impact your visit? We strongly encourage our visitors to purchase their tickets in advance at the ONLY authorized ferry ticket seller for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island – Statue City Cruises Advanced Purchase Crown Ticket Holders must check in at the kiosk in Castle Clinton National Monument before going through security screening and boarding the ferry on the day of their visit. The new security screening facility will be farther away from the ferry ticket kiosk located at Castle Clinton and the Bowling Green subway station. The new location is closer to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and the South Ferry and Whitehall St. subway stations. When will this happen? The relocation happened on February 8, 2024. Reconstruction of this segment of The Battery waterfront is projected to be complete in about 2 years.
