Library Collection

The primary focus of the Springfield Armory Research library is to support staff, partners, and researchers by managing the park's collection of published materials. Our holdings include a general circulation library, rare books, theses and dissertations, copies of unpublished manuscripts, historic newspapers, technical manuals, periodicals, and microfilm.

Main Collection

The main library collection is available for research during regular office hours. Books can be viewed and checked out by park staff and partners.

Special Collections

The special library collections can be accessed under the supervision of library staff, by appointment only. Special care is taken with these collections and these items must remain in the library. Special collections includes rare books, dissertations and theses, manuals, and microfilm (majority of microfilm is related material located at the National Archives and Records Administration).

Of particular note is the Springfield Armory Post Library Collection, which is a rare book collection consisting of the historic library of Springfield Armory. Relatedly, is a collection of technical and field manuals that was located within the Support and Research Department of the Springfield Armory.
