Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

Contest Rules

Winners will be selected for the best photos in the following categories:

  1. Wilderness (Photos that represent wilderness to you)

  2. Wildlife (Birds, bears, snakes share your favorite animal photos from your trip)

  3. Sequoias (Big or small, sequoia pictures only please)

  4. Nature (Close-up photos of flowers, pictures of streams share what makes you think of nature)

  5. Dark Sky (Share photos of the Milky Way or starry skies)

  6. Find Your Park (Photos that represent how you “Find Your Park” and why you love Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks)

We will start accepting submissions on November 30, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. PST. The last possible time to submit a photo will be December 2, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. PST.

It is not necessary to categorize your own submission(s). Judges will consider each submission in at least one and up to three categories.

Any photo(s) submitted to the contest must have been taken in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks or must show land within Sequoia and/or Kings Canyon National Parks.

Do not submit photos that clearly identify people. This opens legal issues about whether or not the people in the photo have granted permission to have their image used in a public forum. For photos that show people who are unidentifiable (e.g., facing away from the camera, or far enough from the camera that faces are not clearly recognizable), subjects must be shown enoying the parks in a manner consistent with the laws, rules, and mission of the National Park Service.

Photos with text, including copyright, watermark, or other text overlays will not be considered in the contest.

Each fan may submit up to three photos to the contest.

Only photos submitted with the hashtag #SequoiaKingsNPSPhotoContest2022 will be considered. This text shows us that you have read and understand the contest rules, intend to have your photo be part of the contest, and understand that by submitting photos to this contest, you are releasing your photos into the public domain.

Releasing your photos into the public domain means that they may be used by anyone, for any purpose. If the National Park Service uses your photo(s), we will usually credit you but cannot guarantee it, depending upon the medium.
You will retain non-exclusive rights to your photos and may continue to use them in any way you wish.

Federal government employees who work in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks (National Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey, and U.S. Forest Service employees who have a duty station in the parks) are excluded from participating in the contest.

How to Submit a Photo:

You can submit up to three photos via direct message (Facebook Messenger) from November 30 through December 2. We will only accept three photos from each entrant. You must include the hashtag: #SequoiaKingsNPSPhotoContest2022 when submitting your photo(s). You are encouraged to provide a date and location for your photo. If the name of the photographer is not clear from the name of your Facebook account, please specify.

Any photo submitted without use of the hashtag #SequoiaKingsNPSPhotoContest2022 will not be considered. By including #SequoiaKingsNPSPhotoContest2022 with your submission, you show us that you have read and understand these contest rules, intend to have your photo be part of the contest, and understand that every photo submission that the parks receive as part of the contest becomes part of the public domain.

Photo Contest Winners:

Winners will be selected and announced by mid-December, 2022.

Winners will be notified by the parks' contest coordinator through a Facebook message. A high-resolution version of the winning photo(s) along with your mailing address will be requested. We will announce first, second, and third place winners in each category on our social media platforms, and mail certificates and small prizes to these winners.
