Hikers on a rocky hill
Young Hill offers expansive views.

NPS

San Juan Island National Historical Park has hiking opportunities for visitors of all ages and abilities. There are over 23 miles of trails in the park! You can hike through a dense forest, along an ocean bluff, through a historical landscape, and to the tops of mountains with stunning views. We are pet friendly and welcome on-leash dogs throughout our park.

Looking for stunning views? Take the relatively easy climb to the top of Mount Finlayson at American Camp, or the far steeper trail to the top of Young Hill at English Camp.

Interested in ocean views and wildlife? Take the Bluff Trail at American Camp and experience peace and quiet within view of the Salish Sea. This trail is also often cooler than other areas, so on hot summer days it is a refreshing change of pace.

We also offer interpretive trails! Check out the History Walk at American Camp and Officers' Hill at English Camp. Don't miss the forested Nature Trail at Jakle’s Lagoon.

View our hiking maps for American Camp, English Camp, and Mitchell Hill. Paper maps are available at our visitor center desks, just ask our staff!

Below is a selection of some of our best trails in the park. Click on any of the trails on the map, or view the list below.
