Archeology Day 2017

News Release Date: October 25, 2017 Join park staff and community partners for Archeology Day at Mission San Jose from 10:00 am-3:00 pm on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The free, family-friendly event is a fun way to learn about archeology through numerous activities including marking and mapping a dig unit, throwing an atlatl, building arches and adobe brick making. Archeology Day provides an opportunity to discover past human cultures, learn about the historical significance of archeological sites, and the importance of historical and prehistoric preservation. 
The event will take place on the grounds of Mission San Jose, 6701 San Jose Drive. Mission San Jose is open 9:00 am-5:00 pm daily. The Visitor Center offers a short film every 30 minutes and Ranger guided tours of San Jose take place daily at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm.  On Archeology Day, special guided tours about the archaeology of the mission will take place at 10:30 am, 11:30 am and 1:30 pm.  

Archeology Day is offered with generous support from Mission Heritage Partners, UTSA’s Institute of Texan Cultures and The Center for Archaeological Research, the San Antonio Museum of Art, Casa Navarro State Historic Site, Southwest Texas Archaeological Society-AIA, the San Antonio Conservation Society, the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation, Momo and Pompa and Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park.
