EMERGENCIES: In case of emergency, call 911. Area map shows the location of the nearest phone. Site Location: Site is in a spruce/fir stand adjacent to avalanche debris on east side of creek, about 0.2 miles from trail that goes to Lake of Glass. Near site is a large area of trees downed by an avalanche that occurred during winter of 1985-86. A wood sign indicates the path to the site; the path may be marked by red arrowheads on trees. Camp safely away from standing dead trees, as near as is safely possible to the silver metal arrowhead. Number of Sites: 1 (Maximum of 2-four person tents) Elevation: 10,560 feet Distance: 3.6 miles from Glacier Gorge TH Approximate Travel Time: 3 to 4 hours Elevation Change: 1,320 feet gain Privy: NO---Use pack in and pack out human waste bags. Water Source: Water is available from creek. Boil or adequately treat all water. To Reach the Trailhead (TH): Glacier Gorge TH: From Beaver Meadows Visitor Center follow Hwy 36 west to Bear Lake Road (approximately 1.3 miles). Turn left onto Bear Lake Road and follow for approximately 8 miles to the TH. Parking along road may result in your vehicle being towed. If TH parking is full, use another established parking lot or use the Shuttle Bus when it is available. |
