The year 2004 marked the National Park Museum Centennial of the world's largest system of museums. An arboretum became the first National Park Service museum built in Yosemite National Park in 1904. Today the National Park Service manages and preserves more than 105 million objects, specimens, documents, and images. Rocky Mountain National Park is not the exception when it comes to its museum collection. With one of the first museum storage facilities (MSF) in the Intermountain Region built in 1995 the collection has been growing and will only continue to expand. The MSF is a state of the art building that provides long-term preservation and access for over 20,000 cultural and natural history objects and archives. Along with curating and maintaining collections in the Museum Storage Facility, exhibits throughout the park in visitor centers and the Holzworth Historic Site tell the story of Native Americans, homesteaders, and early park establishment. Rocky Mountain National Park is great place to hike and camp, and it is also full of rich cultural and natural traditions.
