On Friday, July 13, Rocky Mountain National Park will honor park volunteers at the annual Volunteer Recognition Event, to be held at the YMCA of the Rockies – Reusch Auditorium from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Through this annual event hundreds of volunteers will be recognized for their generous and diverse contributions to a common mission – helping the park serve visitors and protect resources. Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the nation’s most visited parks. Volunteers play a vital role in helping visitors enjoy the park. Last year, 2,070 volunteers contributed 97,522 hours to a myriad of park programs. Volunteers assist at visitor centers and ranger stations, give interpretive programs and serve as campground hosts. They also protect bighorn sheep and elk by managing traffic flow and talking with visitors at popular wildlife viewing areas and educating visitors about not feeding wildlife. Behind the scenes park volunteers build trails, maintain roads, conduct research projects, protect native trout, revegetate disturbed areas, and remove invasive non-native plants. They also participate in countless other projects that help the park. Volunteers can be proud of the indispensable role they play at Rocky Mountain National Park.
