The Estes Park Lions Club has made its annual donation of $1,200 to the Bob Bastilla Transportation Fund. This fund pays for bus transportation for Park School District field studies in Rocky Mountain National Park. Each year over eight hundred Estes Park students in Kindergarten through 7th grade participate in activities at the national park which help them understand the connection between park resources and their community. “Such field trips to the park for all these grade levels have become more expensive for our schools,” said Mark De Gregorio, Education Specialist for the park. “The Lions Club’s generous donation has allowed thousands of Estes students to study the park during the past eight years.” The Fund, established in 1999 is a memorial to Bob Bastilla, past Lions Club president and park interpretive ranger who passed away in 1995. “Bob really enjoyed having students visit when he worked at Moraine Park Museum. Having worked with him, I know he felt strongly about our local children learning about this special place,” De Gregorio added. The fund has reimbursed the Park School District for almost $10,000 for bus transportation since its inception. |
