River Raisin National Battlefield Park is the only National Park Service site that focuses on the aftermath of the War of 1812. Many people are surprised to learn how important the Great Lakes region was in shaping the United States and how this war, involving several nations, still matters today.

On this driving tour, you can explore places that help explain why centuries of European expansion in North America led to a major conflict. The bloodiest fighting happened in Southeast Michigan. Here, you can learn about what happened after the battles and how these events continue to affect nations and individuals.

The Battlefield includes several sites in Monroe and Wayne Counties connected to the January 1813 Battles of Frenchtown and their aftermath. To fully understand what happened, you can also visit more than 30 related sites outside the Battlefield. These locations are managed in partnership with over 30 organizations.

When visiting, please honor those who lost their lives.
