With 3 frontcountry campgrounds, 1 backcountry campgrounds and 5 cabin camps, Prince William Forest Park is the premiere camping area in Northern Virginia. Only 35 miles south of Washington, DC, our forested campgrounds are a true outdoor experience close to our nation's capital. Campers must pay the park entrance fee. Valid National park passes accepted.

Oak Ridge Campground

Campers are charged an entrance fee. Valid national park passes accepted. Campers are charged for campsites. No hook-ups for RVs. Oak Ridge Campground is a 100-site campground with bathrooms, grills, picnic tables, and drive-up campsites. Both tents and RVs are welcome in Oak Ridge Campground, although there are no hook-ups for RVs, and RVs are restricted to 32 feet or less in length, 12 feet in height. For trailers, the length restriction is 26 feet. Leashed pets are welcome. No trailers or RVs are allowed in C Loop. It is tents only. Make reservations on Recreation.gov. The campground is open from early March to November 30.

Turkey Run Ridge Group Campground

Campers are charged an entrance fee. Valid national park passes accepted. Turkey Run Ridge Group Campground is a 9-site campground with bathrooms (no showers), grills and picnic tables. Sites hold a maximum of 25 to 40 people and parking is readily available. You can reserve your spot at Turkey Run Ridge Group Campground on Recreation.gov. No senior discounts apply to camping at Turkey Run. Alcohol and pets are prohibited at Turkey Run Ridge Group Campground.

Cabin Camping

Cabin Camps 1 through 5 host groups of 70 to 200 people for group camping. Cabin Camp 3 allows individuals and families to rent single cabins. Four of the five cabin camps are on the National Register of Historic Places. Individual cabin reservations can be made on Recreation.gov from mid-April to mid-November. Group cabin reservations can be made by filling out an application and sending it into the park. Cabin Campers are charged an entrance fee per vehicle. Valid national park passes accepted.

Prince William Forest RV Campground


This is a concessionaire-run campground with full hook-ups for RVs, a pool, and laundry facility. Reservations can be made by contacting the park concessionaire at 703-221-2474. Campers who choose to enter the rest of the park are charged the park entrance fee. Valid national park passes are accepted.

Chopawamsic Backcountry Area

The Chopawamsic Backcountry Area is an 8-site, hike-in/hike-out, backcountry campground. Each campsite holds only 2 tents accomodating at most 4 people. Campfires are not allowed and pets are also prohibited. The sites are available year-round on a first-come/first-serve basis by reservation on recreation.gov (while the sites are free, there is a small reservation fee). Campers are charged an entrance fee to the park though valid national park passes will cover this fee.
