Annual Port Chicago Disaster Commemoration Event

2026 date and registration to be announced in May

Each year, the Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial holds a commemoration event to honor the lives lost in the tragic explosion of July 17, 1944. This event, held around this date, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made and the enduring impact on civil rights and military policies.

The commemoration includes a solemn memorial ceremony, featuring speeches from guest speakers who reflect on the historical significance of the disaster. Information tables from both the park and various partners provide additional context and educational materials, enriching attendees' understanding of the events and their aftermath.




Every individual will need to be registered separately. Please be sure to provide all the required information:

  • First name
  • Middle name (no initials, full name. NMN if no middle name)
  • Last name
  • Date of birth
  • Driver's license number and state of issue or CAC number

The U.S. Army requires this information so that they can clear all visitors before given permission to visit the Memorial, since it is located within the boundary of the Military Ocean Terminal Concord
