National Register of Historic Places

Built between 1935 and 1938 to help reduce unemployment during the Great Depression, the Mammoth Post Office was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The building features French Renaissance Moderne design and travertine walls in the lobby.

The two limestone bear sculptures at the entrance were added in 1941 through a federal art program. Created by Gladys Caldwell Fisher and inspired by Yellowstone grizzlies, the three-ton bears were shipped by rail from Denver.
