Closures and Public Use Limits: Pursuant to the authority outlined in 36 C.F.R. § 1.5(a)(1), which provides that the Superintendent may “impose public use limits, or close all or a portion of a park area to all public use or to a specific use or activity,” as necessary for the maintenance of public safety and the avoidance of conflict among visitor use activities, the following areas are closed to the public beginning at 9:00am on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, and continuing through 7:00pm on Monday, August 3, 2026. All times are local and subject to change based on operational needs.

•A portion of the southeast corner of the West Lawn marked by fencing and a portion of the park’s southern boundary, which proceeds northwest from the seawall near Delaware Avenue to a point east from 99 Delaware Avenue, then northeast to existing construction fencing at the International Peace Memorial, then southeast from the construction fencing at the northeast corner to the seawall. Perry’s Victory and International Peace Monument is issuing a Special Use Permit for a multi-day event that includes a stage and associated infrastructure in the above areas. Event staff and required National Park Service personnel can access the closed areas as needed to fulfill event logistics and monitoring. This temporary closure of the above-described backstage area is necessary to maintain the health and safety of visitors attending the events, event staff, and performers during event setup, performances, breakdown, and other operational requirements, as well as to avoid conflict between visitor use activities and ensure equitable allocation and use of park facilities. The park intends to reopen the closed area as soon as safely possible following the removal of production equipment, consistent with security and safety needs.
This closure impacts a designated public assembly area, which will be inaccessible to the public for the duration of the closure; the current designated area will be relocated to the grassy area immediately east of the north-south sidewalk to the east of the Park’s Visitor Center, extending as far north as the paved walkway through the park, to the south as far as the walkway to the south of the Park’s Visitor Center and extending eastward along the same line to a point between the two northwestern most maple trees, then to the north to the paved walkway. This relocation will allow for permitted and unpermitted demonstration and other activities in accordance with 36 C.F.R. § 2.51 and 36 C.F.R. § 2.52. This temporary relocation will be in effect only for the length of the closure from July 29 through August 3, 2026. See map below.

Violating a closure, designation, use or activity restriction, schedule of visiting hours, or public use limit is prohibited.

Tickets for the Observation Deck

The Plazas, Rotunda, and the Observation Deck of the Memorial will be inaccessible for the 2026 and 2027 seasons due to the Upper Plaza Rehabilitation.

The visitor center including the interactive exhibits, a 15-minute park film, and the park store, is open daily 10 am to 6 pm. The memorial plaza, park walkways, lawns, and all roads including State Route 357 (Bayview Ave), are available 24-hours daily.

 

Parking

The visitor center has designated accessible parking spaces plus parking for golf carts and cars. Visitors may be dropped off in front of the visitor center but must park cars in the side lot. A bicycle rack is provided.

Please do not park any vehicle including golf carts on the grass or on sidewalks. If parking is full, return to the visitor center to park and walk the pathway to the memorial, or try later.
