What Is a "Backcountry" Campground?In our park, "backcountry campground" refers to sites that have some basic amenities, but not as many as developed campgrounds. All backcountry sites have picnic tables, fire rings, lantern posts, and vault toilet restrooms. Campground ReservationsStarting in 2025, backcountry campgrounds will be available by reservation only (when they charge a fee). Sites that have no fee in winter will remain free and non-reservable during that time. Reservations can be made by visiting recreation.gov or calling (877) 444-6777. Backcountry Campground FeesBackcountry sites charge a fee during the summer season, but they become free and non-reservable in the off-season. Click the tabs below for information on each season. In summer, all backcountry campsites require a reservation. Reservations can only be made through recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777. Most campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance.
