ONSR Receives Recovery Act Funding

For Immediate Release
The National Park Service (NPS) - Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR) announced that several projects were funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The funding spans all districts in the park and help with large maintenance projects.

Projects include trail work in the Chubb Hollow area, replacing underground electric systems, and preventative road work. The work will be done with a mixture of park employees and contracted services.

“Ozark is fortunate to receive over two million dollars in Recovery Act spending.” Reed Detring, park superintendent commented, “This is an investment in our park and will help stimulate the local economy, providing for some day labor positions as well as contracts for our new projects. Visitors will see benefits from the projects, and possibly construction in some areas of the park.”

All the projects announced today are long-standing priorities of the National Park Service and meet the criteria put forth in the Recovery Act: namely, that a project addresses the Department’s highest priority mission needs; generates the largest number of jobs in the shortest period of time; and creates lasting value for the American public.

Ozark National Scenic Riverways preserves the free-flowing Current and Jacks Fork Rivers, the surrounding natural resources, and the unique cultural heritage of the Ozark people. For more information, visit www.nps.gov/ozar.
