September 27, 1780 Colonel Benjamin Cleveland gathered 200 men from this area and mustered them at Smoot Park along the Yadkin River Greenway. They were joined by the forces of Colonel Winston, who had mustered in what is now Elkin, NC. This area was a well-known meeting ground and was well suited to hosting the group of Patriots. After coming together, the 350 men continued along the river on their journey to Quaker Meadows. The greenway trails follow very close to or in the exact places where the Patriots would have ridden in 1780. Although not yet connected, all sections of greenway that are adjacent to the river are certified sections of the OVNHT. They feature interpretive waysides and informational boards about the OVNHT.
Parking is available at multiple trailheads, as are picnic areas, restrooms, drinking fountains and playgrounds. The trail system is open year round, sunrise to sunset. Yadkin River Greenway Website
