The Office of Policy provides administrative support and expertise on establishing and managing groups of outside experts and partners used by the National Park Service (NPS) to help achieve its mission.
Advisory committees include representatives of partner groups, outside experts, or both who provide advice to improve NPS programs. Unless specifically exempted by law, advisory committees are managed under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA).
Operating commissions are established by law and develop and implement programs for the NPS. These groups are not governed by FACA.
