Monterey Furniture at the Chateau

The Monterey furniture within the Chateau is notable for its unique, hand-crafted designs, primarily made by the Mason Manufacturing Company of Los Angeles. These pieces, predominantly constructed from Oregon alder wood, were adorned with hand-painted floral patterns, each reflecting the individuality of the craftsmen involved.

Conserving and Restoring the Monterey Furniture

Over the years, many of these designs have either faded or been lost during refurbishing. To preserve this important collection, MPF Conservation has undertaken the task of conserving and restoring pieces from the Chateau's collection of Mason Monterey furniture. The furniture has since been returned to the Chateau at Oregon Caves National Monument. The National Park Service (NPS), which became the owner of the collection, has worked diligently to ensure its preservation. Prior to NPS ownership, collection surveys identified key damages to the furniture, allowing for strategic conservation efforts to take place.

For more detailed information, you can visit MPF Conservation's website to learn about the specific restoration efforts involved.
