No outside roads lead into Stehekin. It is not possible to drive into Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. FerryTwo ferry companies provide passenger service to Stehekin. Parking information: for Chelan and Fields Point. By Foot or HorsebackFor a wilderness adventure, hike or horseback into the Stehekin Valley. Multiple routes traverse the surrounding wilderness areas. All overnight stays in the backcountry require a backcountry permit available through the Wilderness Information Center in Marblemount. Private BoatThere are over 16 public docks along Lake Chelan including four in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. The main dock is at Stehekin Landing, with smaller docks near Stehekin at Purple Point, and at boat-in camps. A federal dock permit is required for boaters using the federal docks from May 1 to October 31 ($10 daily or $75 for the season). This fee helps pay for maintenance costs. Passes can be obtained ahead of time at the Chelan Ranger Station or from local vendors in Chelan or upon arrival in Stehekin at the North Cascades Lodge at Stehekin. No personal watercraft (such as Jet Skis) are allowed in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. PlanePrivate or chartered aircraft can land on Lake Chelan, at the grass airstrip at the Stehekin State Airport, or on private land with the permission of the landowner. Limited floatplane docking is available at the public dock at Stehekin Landing. No regular air service exists to and from Stehekin.
