Karen E. Lewis of West Linn, Oregon will join us in the North Casdades Artist in Residence program from August 26 through September 23. She will be staying at the Newhalem Camptender and setting up presentations and workshops, as well as doing her art in the park.

Karen began painting in watercolor, and after studying with other artists expanded to oil painting. After attending a plein air painting workshop she works principally in oils, painting landscape. She paints full-time in the field or in her studio and teaches oil painting through Portland Community College (Community Ed Dept.) Karen's resume includes several awards, as well as galleries that show her work. http://www.karenlewisstudio.com/about_the_artist.htm

She will probably want to paint outdoors at least half of the day while the weather is nice.  "As a productive professional painter, I usually spend about 8 hours a day either outdoors or in the studio, though I may spend a bit of the daytimes hiking to more remote locations." She mentioned that she would check in with the VC each morning as to which trail she will be painting along.

"My favorite subjects are rivers, lakes, waterfalls, clouds, any form of water. By working from within the North Cascades National Park, I hope to immerse myself in its landscape and natural history, bringing a richness of experience to my work both during and after the visit. I will welcome interacting with visitors to the park and sharing my artistic process."
