Floating the River: Canoeing, Kayaking & Tubing

Most visitors to the Niobrara rent equipment from private businesses. Some bring their own boats and equipment and either contact an outfitter for a shuttle or plan to shuttle themselves.

Hunting and Fishing

There are Hunting and Fishing opportunities along the Niobrara National Scenic River Corridor! Deer, elk, and turkey are roaming the area. In the river, rainbow and brown trout are present in several spring-branch canyon tributaries, and can provide a challenge for any avid fly fisher. Anglers interested in using the more popular bait or lure methods can try their hand at channel catfish, carp, bluegill, green sunfish, grass pickerel, and many other fish species.

Hiking, Cycling, and Birding:

The Cowboy Trail, a rails to trails route from Norfolk to Valentine, Nebraska, is designed for hiking, cycling, and distance running in addition to equestrian use.

Nearby Attractions include wildlife refuges and recreation areas that offer opportunities for hiking and birding, and more.
