Major Duties:
Contact park neighbors to set up oral history interviews. Conduct interviews following the park Oral History Standard Operating Procedures. Transcribe the oral history interview using Microsoft Word within two months following the interview.
Work Location:
Sandstone Visitor Center, New River Gorge National River, I-64 at Exit 139, Sandstone, WV
Work Environment:
Volunteer will be working indoors at the Sandstone Visitor Center, traveling to and from oral history interviews, and working within the homes or offices of those interviewed. Sedentary work is required as well as walking, hauling equipment, and driving.
Work Schedule:
4-40 hours per week, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.., Monday – Saturday, year-round
Uniform:
VIP shirt, name badge, and hat supplied by park, to be worn with jeans, pants or slacks (not faded and without holes) and tennis or dress shoes
Skill and qualifications needed:
Required: Ability to communicate and work with the public, Ability to setup and conduct oral history interviews. Knowledge of the topics and park areas that are the subjects of the interview. Skill in the use of tape recording devices, typing skill, and computer experience.
Desired: Previous experience in working with the public; knowledge of the park and its history.
Supervision:
Cultural Resource Specialist or Environmental Education Specialist
