WASHINGTON – This month, the National Park Service (NPS) will host community pop-ups in Northeast and Southeast Washington, D.C., to share proposed plans to improve NPS recreational facilities at the Alabama Avenue playground; Battery Ricketts and Fort Stanton Park; Kenilworth Park; Randle Circle Park, Lanham Estates and Ridge Road picnic areas at Fort Dupont Park; and River Terrace Park at Anacostia Park.

A significant investment from the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) Legacy Restoration Fund has been proposed to improve recreational facilities in National Park Service sites in Northeast and Southeast Washington, D.C. The funding for these projects, as well as projects at Anacostia Park, the Parkland area of Shepherd Parkway, would help update tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, picnic pavilions, restrooms, and fencing and lighting.

The NPS wants to hear from the community about how to continue improving parks and how the community would like to use and enjoy these beloved community spaces. Public participation is vital to the planning process. During the pop-ups, neighbors will learn more about the effort to improve parks, see the plans, ask questions and share feedback on the plans. The NPS will use public feedback to help shape the improvement projects’ design plans.
